Tuff is a volcaniclastic rock, with over 50% of its constituent volcanic debris particles having a diameter smaller than 2 millimeters. Its main component is volcanic ash, and it can appear either loosely coarse or dense with stratification, known as stratified tuff. The color of tuff varies due to differences in composition, ranging from purple-red, gray-white, to gray-green. Tuff is commonly used as a construction material and can also serve as a raw material for cement production and extraction of potassium fertilizer.
